European Commission introduces new emission standards for coal-fired power plants

On July 31 2017 the European Commission announced the latest EU regulations regarding pollution standards from large combustion plants (the so-called BAT LCP). The BAT (Best Available Techniques) conclusions introduce new and stricter emission standards for pollutants from large combustion installations. They will cover numerous power plants and CHP plants in Europe. The conclusions result from the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), effective since January 2016, which is an important tool of the European Commission in the fight against air pollution.

Winter package puts Ostrołeka C in serious trouble

Planned in the Rzekuń municipality, the coal-fired power plant Ostrołęka C is expected to cost a substantial PLN 6 billion. However, the investment risk is so great that in December 2016 the original owner of the project – the Energa Group – signed a contract for joint implementation of the project with Enea S.A. The investment is also to receive financial support from the outside.

It's supposed to be wind and gas, not coal. As PGE considers joining Ostrołęka C the shares fall

In October 2018 Polish largest coal utility PGE declared that the company's priority is not coal, but wind and gas energy. In response to the information announced on 7 January 2019 that the company is considering joining the Ostrołęka C project, the prices of PGE shares are falling and analysts warn that involvement in the project is risky.
